Stark VARG Charging Guide
Home charging, outdoor charging, pickup/V2L power, Tesla discharge, and generator setups – tuned for 230V riders and desert riding days.
Key numbers
- VARG battery: ~7.2 kWh (typical)
- Official/typical charge: ~1–2 hrs on 230–240V
- Stock portable charger: ≈3.3 kW AC input
- Outdoor power: use pure sine AC, set charger ≤ power source rating
Charging Options Overview
| Method | Power source | Charger setting | Time (approx.) | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Home / garage (230V) | 230V single phase, 16A circuit | Up to 3.3 kW | 1–2 hrs | Most stable, best for daily use |
| Pickup / V2L vehicle outlet | 230V pure sine onboard outlet | Match vehicle outlet (2–3.3 kW) | ~1–2 hrs | Perfect for track / desert days |
| Tesla discharge (Cybertruck / vehicle with AC) | Built-in AC outlet, 230–240V | ≤3.0–3.3 kW | ~1–2 hrs | Check vehicle’s continuous rating |
| Portable power station | Pure sine, ≥3 kW continuous | ≤ station continuous | Depends on capacity | Silent, clean, but pricey |
| Inverter gasoline generator | 230V, low THD (≤5%), 4–5 kW cont. | Set charger to 80% of gen rating | ~1–2 hrs (full power) | Ventilation & grounding required |
Times are typical values; actual results depend on SOC, temperature, cable length and inverter efficiency.
1. Standard Home / Workshop Charging
This is the cleanest and safest way to charge your Stark VARG.
- Use the official/stock charger and plug into a 230V, 16A circuit.
- If the circuit is shared or weak, lower the charger power to 2.0–2.5 kW.
- Use a thick 2.5mm² extension with proper earth and RCD protection.
- In hot climates (like UAE), charge in shade and ventilated areas.
2. Outdoor Charging from Pickup / V2L Vehicles
Many modern pickups and utility SUVs now come with a 230V pure-sine outlet. This is perfect for desert rides, MX tracks and remote spots.
- Confirm the outlet is pure sine wave and check its continuous wattage.
- Set the VARG charger power ≤ outlet rating (e.g. 2.4 kW outlet → set 2.0–2.4 kW).
- Keep cables short to reduce voltage drop.
3. Tesla / EV Discharge Charging
If your EV (e.g. Cybertruck or other vehicle with factory AC outlets) supports vehicle-to-load (V2L), you can directly power the Stark VARG charger from the car.
- Use the 230–240V AC outlet from the vehicle.
- Set the charger to 3.0–3.3 kW max, or lower if the car’s outlet is limited.
- Most Model 3/Y do not have an AC outlet – don’t confuse 12V inverters with real V2L.
- Large EV packs (100 kWh+) can recharge a VARG many times in theory, depending on efficiency.
4. Portable Power Stations
Great for silent pits and indoor events.
- Must be pure sine, 230V, and at least 3 kW continuous.
- Capacity should match the VARG battery (~7.2 kWh). With losses, 8–9 kWh is safer for a full charge.
- If your station is smaller, just lower the charger power and use it as a “top-up” source.
5. Inverter Generator Charging
A gasoline inverter generator is still the most flexible outdoor option.
- Choose an inverter type with low THD (≤5%) to protect the charger.
- For a 3.3 kW charger, pick a generator with at least 4–5 kW continuous so it’s not running at 100%.
- Set the charger to about 80% of the generator’s continuous rating.
- Disable eco/idle mode while charging to avoid voltage sag.
- Always run outside, sheltered from sand/rain, and ground it properly.
FAQ
Why do some people say it shows 6.6 kW?
Some app/GUI values show higher or theoretical power. The AC side of the stock charger is around 3.3 kW in real use. Always match the charger setting to the actual power source to stay safe.
Can I charge from a public AC post with an adapter?
Technically some riders do it using EVSE-to-socket adapters, but it depends on local regulations, the post, and adapter quality. Officially, vehicle outlets, generators and portable power are the more universal outdoor methods.
Can a 5.5 kW / 230V / 22A generator charge it?
Yes – that’s enough. Just set the VARG charger to 3.0–3.3 kW so the generator runs comfortably below its peak.
